The Bathroom's Environmental Impact

The Bathroom's Environmental Impact

January saw the #BigEnergySavingWeek make a splash across social media, including our own accounts. Companies posted their top tips on how to save energy (and subsequently save money) across their platforms, with facts such as the below:

It is important for larger companies to also commit themselves to reducing their environmental impact too; preserving resources and energy throughout the line of industry before it reaches the consumer not only lessens the industrial blow on the environment, but also will provide an option for the masses to alter their current lifestyle should they so wish.

Aware of their need to cater to such environmental movements whilst reducing their energy footprint as a company, our suppliers Roca, Grohe and Mira have come up with some inspirational solutions.

Roca have a sustainable production process, creating their own “Roca loves the planet” concept; managing waste-free industrial processes via their zero waste program, and a goal set very early in the environmental movement to have cut their CO2 emissions by 25%. Roca also pass their innovative energy saving ethos down to their customers, creating products such as the Roca w+w which recycles waste tap water to flush the toilet!

In a similar fashion, Grohe have their energy initiative to go “ZERO”; achievable by converting their production plants to run on green electricity, offsetting unavoidable CO2 emissions and reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by a staggering 40% - far exceeding sustainability targets. Such grand targets have their obvious positives, but also provide engineering opportunities for innovative processes to reduce their environmental harm. Shaking up industry in such a way creates a new and exciting era for manufacturers and consumers alike.

Mira were also somewhat ahead of their time, creating an environmental policy in 2008 to annually reduce their offsets to reach carbon neutral by 2035. This is done through cutting their carbon footprint and solid waste, companywide, by 3% a year to reach their goal. 3% may seem insignificant to some, but cutting waste by a small amount is a sure-fire way to invest in your environmental journey which dramatically reduces your carbon footprint long-term.

Modernising your plumbing and heating will not only save valuable expense in running costs, but will also save your impact on the earth.
