Riding for Environmental Change

Riding for Environmental Change

What comes to mind when thinking of a 150 mile bike ride? For some of you extreme exercise enthusiasts, you may think it sounds like fun, but I am guessing for the majority of us it sounds like a demanding challenge resulting in aching muscles and possibly an ambulance being needed at the other end.

However, a few of our brave colleagues have taken on this challenge and have been training hard to get ready for just a feat, taking place on the 30th of September to the 3rd of October. Why are they doing this? They are doing it to raise money for a couple of truly amazing charities, Surfers Against Sewage and Woodland Trust. As this challenge is all in aid of a couple of fantastic charities, we wanted to share a bit of information about the work they do.

Surfers Against Sewage

Focusing on the health of our ocean, this charity could not be more relevant in today’s society. Money raised from donations, and their shop of environmentally friendly created products, is used to support their beach cleaning, campaigning and education programmes. They also produce a wealth of reports and other sources of information regarding the health of our oceans. Raising awareness of companies polluting our oceans and the damaging effect of single use plastics, Surfers Against Sewage have had some incredible achievements such as contributing to our government toughening regulations on companies as well as conducting thousands of beach cleans.

Woodland Trust

Woodlands and wildlife create biodiversity, a key element in making up a healthy ecosystem. Therefore, not only does having beautiful woods filled with nature benefit our wellbeing when we visit these stunning places, it also helps our planet. Woodland Trust is a true advocate for this. For example, their work includes planting woods to combat climate change, 50 million trees planted to be exact!

In addition to their amazing work, these charities provide fantastic resources of information. For example, Woodland Trust has articles on where to find woods to visit, identifying various wildlife to gardening tips while Surfers Against Sewage has numerous reports such as their brand audit which looks at which companies are failing to take responsibility for their pollution. We reccomend visiting their websites to find out more.
